Earshot Jazz previews The Ballard Jazz Festival

POSTED: MAY 2, 2015

Thirteen is a lucky number for local jazz fans: The 13th annual Ballard Jazz Festival is just around the corner. Hitting on multiple stages from May 6-9, Seattle’s uniquely homegrown jazz fest has developed into an eagerly anticipated annual event that hasn’t lost touch with the intimate and collaborative atmosphere that made it special in the first place. Since its early days as the Ballard Jazz Walk, the reputation and reach of the festival have grown while the vibe has remained welcoming and accessible.

“I want to make sure it’s a local festival, so it sounds like Seattle,” says festival organizer and Seattle jazz impresario John Bishop. “It will be a celebration of that.”

Take a listen ...

Ballard Jazz Festival previewed in The Seattle Times

POSTED: APRIL 30, 2015

The Seattle Times has previewed the 2015 Ballard Jazz Festival.

Ballard headliners include soulful, Olympia-bred tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, swinging guitarist Peter Bernstein, Portland bassist extraordinaire David Friesen and Origin recording artist Lucas Pino, playing tenor sax with his No Net Nonet.

Though the fall Earshot Jazz Festival has more firepower, Ballard’s little spree has a community flavor that’s hard to beat, the highlight being its Mardi Gras-like “jazz walk” featuring Northwest artists at a bevy of clubs along or near Ballard Avenue Northwest on Friday night, May 8.

Get your Festival Program!

POSTED: APRIL 21, 2015

The Ballard Jazz Festival Program and Ballard Jazz Walk Maps are now available for download.

Plan your festival now and make sure you read all the artist bios, find out more about the individual events and check out our sponsors!

The 2015 Ballard Jazz Walk has two new additions.

First, the Friday Night Concert at Nordic Heritage Museum featuring the Peter Bernstein Trio and David Friesen's Circle 3 Trio is a "separate event." By "separate" we mean that it has a specific ticket which is the same cost as the Jazz Walk, and it includes admission to the Jazz Walk after the concert, but since seating is limited we want to make sure everyone who attends the Friday concert has a proper seat.

Secondly, when you download your Ballard Jazz Walk Map and Grid you'll notice that bands performing at New York Fashion Academy and Conor Byrne Pub are alternating sets. This will give more people an opportunity to see all of the bands performing. Make sure and check out the Ballard Jazz Walk Grid to for start and stop times for all of the groups!

And a reminder, tickets are now on sale via our website and you will be charge no service charges. Nada, zip, zinch ... ok, you get the point.

New this year is our Friday Night Concert at the Nordic Heritage Museum. The concert features the Peter Bernstein Trio and bassist David Freisen's Circle 3 Trio. Your ticket to the Friday Night Concert also includes admission to the Ballard Jazz Walk so after the concert head over to downtown Ballard to catch all of the action!

Currently, tickets are only available online. Tickets to the Ballard Jazz Walk and Mainstage Concert will be available to purchase at Sonic Boom Records starting April 16.
